Managing Director

Overview

Atalanta is a dynamic and growing mission-driven firm with extensive advocacy, campaigning, and strategic communications expertise.

We work with inspirational leaders and global organisations - whether in the philanthropic, corporate, or political fields to amplify the impact of their work. We help them shape public opinion, run for political office, raise awareness of global issues, and mobilise communities and funding for their initiatives.

We have a particular focus on advancing women's leadership worldwide and accelerating programmes that tackle the root causes of gender inequality.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Managing Director to oversee the continued growth of the business. We are looking for someone who is a seasoned business strategist with an in-depth understanding of how to manage an agency during a scale-up period.

You will work alongside our CEO and COO to set the strategic direction of the agency and continue to build our service offering and client base. The right candidate will be a hands-on leader who is motivated by delivering impact for clients while creating a great environment for team members to learn and develop their skills.

Here’s what we care about:

  • Working with clients that have a positive impact on their countries, sectors, and communities—and helping them design and execute communications strategies with tangible results.
  • Delivering high-calibre work, with exacting standards for quality and attention to detail.
  • Building a dynamic team with a diversity of backgrounds, and ensuring they are constantly growing and developing new skills.
  • A growth mindset for Atalanta, thinking creatively about driving business development and client delivery.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience leading a team to meet growth projections and targets, ideally in a strategic communications or public affairs agency.
  • Is passionate about creating a supportive and high-performing organisational culture, where team members are empowered to pursue growth opportunities.
  • Has experience building a diverse client portfolio and retaining and expanding business with existing clients.
  • Has significant, proven experience managing complex projects and an ability to implement rigorous quality assurance practices to ensure that we continue to deliver at a very high level for our clients.
  • Has an entrepreneurial mindset and an ability to work effectively in a scale-up environment.
  • Has a 30,000-foot view of the business, with an eye on overarching strategy, while maintaining careful oversight of client delivery.
  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven ability to work collaboratively with clients and team members.
  • Is meticulously organised, with a high level of attention to detail, and who knows how to bring out the same in others.
  • Has uncompromising standards for personal integrity.
  • Has common sense and a solution-oriented mindset.

Here’s what you would be doing:

  • Alongside our CEO and COO, playing a key role in setting the strategic direction of the agency.
  • Playing a leading role in driving new business and building a diverse client portfolio.
  • Taking on first-line responsibility for overseeing client delivery, working closely with our account leads to ensure we are consistently meeting agreed KPIs while looking for opportunities to help our clients deliver even greater impact.
  • Alongside our COO, taking on responsibility for managing staff and leading our recruitment, training, and retention initiatives.
  • Working with our CEO and COO to set high standards for delivery and create a culture of continuous improvement across the team.
  • Managing budgets, revenue, and P&L alongside our COO and Director of Finance and Operations.
  • Overseeing efforts to build visibility for the agency, including driving our PR, marketing, and thought-leadership efforts alongside our creative team.
  • Continuing to build our global network of suppliers, ensuring that they meet the highest standards for quality and reliability.
  • Working with our COO on the delivery of our diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism commitments.
  • English language fluency, excellent project management, and strong writing skills are essential. Additional language skills, particularly Portuguese, Arabic, German, Spanish, or French, would be a plus.
